About the Program
Rising temperatures put some people at higher risk than others. Vulnerable populations including aging populations, children, and those with certain health conditions are at higher risk of heat related illness. When vulnerable populations face health inequities due to factors such as poverty, linguistic isolation, the cost of cooling, and the legacy of racist redlining policies, this puts them at disproportionately high risk of heat-related illness and death.
The Extreme Heat and Community Resilience Program was established – via SB 155 (Senate Committee on Budget and Fiscal Review, 2021) – to help address these issues and is funded through AB 211 (Assembly Committee on Budget, 2022).
Round 2
The Extreme Heat and Community Resilience Program (Extreme Heat Program) has released the Final Guidelines for its second round of funding. Round 2 is supported by the Climate Bond (Proposition 4) and the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund.
